Elder Brady has arrived.

We received an email from Sister Wittwer from the mission office to let us know that Tanner had arrived.

Dear Brother and Sister Brady,

Greetings from the Uganda Kampala Mission.  I am happy to let you know that Elder Brady has arrived to the mission field.  I enjoyed his company on Tuesday in the mission home.

He was in great spirits and excited to serve the Lord.  Thank you for sharing him with us for the next little while.  I have attached a picture and a letter from President Collings.

I've arrived in Uganda

I made it to the mission home, so far so good, I meet my trainer tomorrow and I will email you guys on next Monday for P-Day.

Week 2

     Tuesday: Got to email home it was amazing I miss my family so much, but I know this is what God want's me to do. We are getting better at teaching it is kinda fun actually, still can't wait to get out in the field.

     Wednesday: Passed by pretty quick it's becoming easier but not quite. Today we had the Mental, Medical and Security people come in and talk to us about keeping safe and staying unstressed. It seems that South Africa is a very dangerous place, I guess I should have realized that from the walls and gates surrounding the MTC. Well big cultural shock came today when one of the African elders in my room came over and stuck his barefoot in my shoe without even asking permission and he is 20 years old, you'd think he would know better, it was disgusting but I got my shoe cleaned and such.

     Thursday: Today we went to the temple it was amazing it's really small, but I know that it is still God's house and I felt the spirit so much there so grateful to be able to go again before I get in the field. We had transfers today and I got a new companion today he is American and he is from Orem, Utah, His name is Elder Mauerman, finally I can understand my companion talking haha.

     Friday: It was a long day, got in a new district, I have a bigger room it's amazing so much room. We played American Football Africans love it so much haha its tons of fun.

     Saturday: Time is starting to go by faster. We were able to go outside for a class felt amazing to get outside the walls of the MTC Building. I made a goal to do 200 push ups a day so far so good.

     Sunday: I was picked to talk in sacrament meeting today I talked on the Book of Mormon it was really good I talked about my experience with Nephi's Quest, which is like pioneers for the youth, except we are in the ancient Americas. Elder Hamilton of the Seventy came and talked to us, it was amazing and I shook his hand, my first handshake with a General Authority.

     Monday: Went by super quick, in our room before bed we had a flex off and I placed 2nd, not bad for not working out since football season. I'm starting to pack up to leave the MTC for the field and this time next week, I'll be in the field. So you guys might not hear from me for 2 weeks cause I'll be traveling so hopefully President Collins let's me email you guys.

Week 1

(This is his 1st email after being in Africa for about a week.)
     On Wednesday I flew into Johannesburg and went to the MTC, there are 5 American elders here at the MTC.
     On Thursday the rest of the missionaries turned up there are 13 others, I got my MTC comp. his name is Elder Ntshangase and he is from South Africa and he is going to Zimbabwe also he is 25. So the rest of the missionaries are Elder Kirkpatrick who is from Payson Utah and we have hit up a friendship, Elder Bratsman is Northern California, Elder Mauerman is from Orem Utah, Elder Collett is from Dutch John, Utah, Elder Senikuricini (Sin) is from Fiji, Elder Myeni is from Swaziland, Elder Bvute is from South Africa, Elder Chalke is from Australia and we have a trio of friends with him so its me (T-Time), Kirkpatrick (KP), and Chalke. Elder Kaluluma is from Malawi, Elder Molutsi is form South Africa, Elder Lukumay is Tanzania, Sister Natocho is from Uganda, Sister Lutta is from Kenya, Sister Nakami is from Uganda, Sister Nkohla is from South Africa. KP, Bratsman, Kaluluma is going to Uganda with me. Collett, Mauerman, Sin, Myeni, Chalke are going to the South Africa Capetown Mission. Bvute, Lukumay, Ntshangase, Sister Natocho, Sister Lutta, Sister Nkohla are going to Zimbabwe, Molutsi and Sister Nakami are going to Kenya, Milne is going to the Philippines he is here cause of Visa problems.

     Friday was the day that we really started classes so far we have 3 teachers and I like Brother Delate the most, he is from South Africa and went on a mission to the London, England Mission he has been home for 4 months now. The MTC has a gym, but the kicker is we can only use it on P-Days so yea.

     Saturday was another long day in classes Today we taught the African missionaries how to play American Football they loved it. Because they get more breaks than rugby.

     Sunday was Fast Sunday so we had a normal sacrament meeting with talks and all. We watched 17 Miracles and The District 2. Had cake and Ice Cream for all the birthdays we had before the MTC.

     Monday was another long but good day; honestly I kinda want to go home, but I'm trying my best to serve the Lord. It's hard being away from my family, but my roommates make it better with the pranks we pull. I have a video, but I can't send it yet because President says it will make the internet slow downloading so you guys will just have to wait till I get out in the field.

Departing for the MTC in Johannesburg.

     Early this morning, Tuesday, November 28, 2017, we took Tanner to the Idaho Falls Airport for him to depart to the MTC in Johannesburg, South Africa. We got ready to leave our home and he couldn't find his passport, so we all started going through his backpack and suitcases and his sister found it in his backpack. Then we went out to get in his dad's car which had been warming up and his dashboard lights were flickering so we quickly all unloaded and moved his luggage to my car and realized that I was nearly out of gas, but we made it to Idaho Falls to check in by 6:30 am. His dad told him that someone didn't want him to go on his mission. When we got back home the car started just fine with no issues. His plane left at 7:24 am and arrived at the Salt Lake International Airport at ? then after a short layover and meeting some other missionaries who were headed to Peru he and Elder Kirkpatrick continued on to the Atlanta Airport. A very kind person offered him his cell phone to call me which was a relief to hear from him. A couple hours prior to his call, I had said a silent prayer that I would hear from him somehow and know that he was not traveling alone as that was my main concern. A tender mercy for sure. I was so relieved to know that there were 4 other elders traveling with him. When I answered his call I started to cry and he said, "Mom, stop crying. I am fine." After another layover and about a 2 1/2 hour delay due to airplane mechanical problems they were on their way to Johannesburg. They left at 8? p.m. and arrived on Wednesday at about 7pm (which is 10 am MST). Just after 12:00 p.m. (MST) he was able to send us the following email to let us know that he had arrived.
     Hey mom we made it to the MTC safe and sound. There is 5 American elders here, but 13 more missionaries coming to report tomorrow.  There is a big thunderstorm, but we are safe. LOVE YOU give all of the family my love.
